Since 1979, The Mountain has served as a nonprofit camp and conference center for congregations, businesses, schools, and other Unitarian Universalist groups. The Mountain is located on Little Scaly Mountain near Highlands, North Carolina. The Mountain’s largest program is the summer MountainCamp for children and youth from 1st to 12th grades. The Many Hands Peace Farm produces food, mushrooms, flowers, and herbs for the kitchen and dining hall. Staff regularly host farm tours, foraging and wild edibles tours, workshops, and other educational programs. This year a one week Farm Camp for kids aged 12– 17 will offer an immersive educational experience. For more information about the programs and facilities on The Mountain: www.themoutainrlc.org.
UUCT has been a strong supporter of The Mountain since its inception. Members have attended many special programs, participated in camp and youth CONs, and served as volunteers and members of the Board of Trustees. Hazel Richardson established a scholarship fund for UUCT to support participation in Mountain programs. The February 13-27 Share the Plate offerings will provide direct financial support for The Mountain.
