Come to a UUCT House Meeting as part of our justice ministry.

At a house meeting, you join almost 20 other congregations of the Capital Area Justice Ministry (CAJM) in the first steps in dismantling systemic oppression. You will find out what CAJM achieved this year in three areas: affordable rental housing, gun violence, and civil citations for youth offenders instead of arrests. It is a time for fellowship and sharing our concerns.

CAJM spans multiple faiths and denominations. These include Jewish, African Methodist Episcopal, Missionary Baptist, Primitive Baptist, United Methodist, Presbyterian, Episcopalian, and United Church of Christ congregations. Eight are majority Black congregations.

Capital Area Justice Ministry’s mission is in line with our 8th Principle, which our congregation adopted in May 2022. With that principle, we covenant to:

Affirm and promote: journeying toward spiritual wholeness by working to build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions.

One church does not have the power to do this alone. Through CAJM, we marshal the power of the people to hold our local officials accountable to solve serious community justice problems. We demand that our governments implement policies that benefit EVERYONE.

This month, hundreds of people from CAJM congregations are attending meetings, such as the five we are holding in UUCT, to begin the process of change. Our meetings are:

• October 14 from 10 to noon, led by Susan Fleming and Carolyn DuBard at Susan’s home
• October 17 from 6 to 8, led by Carolyn DuBard at her home
• October 20 from 1:30 to 3:30, led by Elinor Elfner and Bob Deyle at Fireplace Room, Westminster Oaks
• ZOOM TBA led by Bob Deyle
