We Show Up! Capital Area Justice News

Capital Area Justice Ministry (CAJM) is a coalition of 22 congregations who show up for social justice in our area. UUCT has been a member since its formation.

This summer, CAJM earned success concerning affordable rental housing after four years of people power applied to this purpose! The Leon County Commission voted to include funds in its 2026 budget to incentivize developers to create more affordable rental housing units for very and extremely low-income residents. With other sources of funding, $500,000 will be available for this gap financing.

Through this four-year advocacy, CAJM has earned the respect of the city and county commissioners. Initially, the commissioners and their staffs would not even return our phone calls. Now they listen to us, because WE SHOW UP!

We show up with research about evidence-based strategies. We propose solutions that have been proven to work.

We are better together! The twenty-two congregations in CAJM accomplish more working together than any single congregation can working alone.

SHOW UP at one of the UUCT “house meetings” to learn what the future holds for CAJM:

  • Sunday, September 28, in the church sanctuary from 12:30-2:00 pm.
  • During the first week of October, at Westminster Oaks and online. Details are TBA.
