Yes indeed, the GST is on a mission, and that mission is to repair or replace four malfunctioning solar panels and associated wiring in our 10Kw solar array. Toward that end the GST had requested $300 in the upcoming fy 24-25 budget to be combined with the $1,200 some dollars that currently reside in the Green Sanctuary Climate Action Fund to initiate the repair process for these solar panels and wiring. In addition, the GST plans to have four fundraisers in each of the four seasons. The plan for these fundraisers is for them include a simple soup supper with salad and bread accompanied by a first-rate environmental movie vetted by the District of Columbia’s Environmental Film Festival Board. Cost for these events would be five dollars per person and ten dollars for a family. So, this means the GST is recruiting outstanding soup and salad chefs, extraordinary bread bakers and some discerning movie critics to help screen which movies we will view.
Oh, and one more thing. The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) has provided a renewable energy grant opportunity for non-profits (ie. UUCT). Therefore, we also need someone who is curious and a superb grant writer to explore this opportunity to fund our church solar system and keep it happily receiving the sun’s great gift to us. So, be ready to step up for the Green Sanctuary Team or put the word out to help fill these critical positions so our newly constituted Green Team can launch into implementation of this worthy effort to keep our solar energy system in tip-top shape.
