Share The Plate: The Kearney Center

UUCT has been a long-time supporter of The Kearney Center, and we will have an opportunity again when they are our Share The Plate (STP) partner on July 16th.  Kearney’s mission is to provide temporary emergency shelter and housing-focused services, with the goal of making homelessness rare, brief, and nonrecurring.  In service to this mission, they are committed to providing a safe environment that promotes dignity and respect.  Since January 2023, 66 clients have moved into permanent housing and 86 people were diverted from homelessness thanks to generous donors.

STP is one way that we generously support local community non-profit organizations in alignment with our Principles.  We can also support Kearney through donating supplies and volunteering.  You may find their wish list of needs at https://kearneycenter.org/wishlist/.  Information on volunteering may be found at https://kearneycenter.org/get-involved/.

Thanks to Kearney’s assistance, Mark found housing, obtained a new I.D., secured food benefits, sorted out personal tax issues, received medical care, and got prescription glasses with the assistance of staff and partner agencies. He secured a part-time job, which led him to full-time employment with benefits and opened the door to housing opportunities.
