Greetings Thoughtful Food Consumers,
It’s been a minute since I connected with you all since our Food for Thought group disbanded. As you recall we terminated our group to make way for a new entity that would encompass a broader view of climate justice than our food discussions did. However, that group has not materialized yet. But in its absence the issue of our food system and its impact on personal health, planetary health, animal welfare, and human hunger continues to present significant challenges.
This summer, Linda and I attended the International Conference on Nutrition in Medicine. We were blown away by all of the presentations and information exchange. One very positive outcome of the meeting was my taking on a leadership role of a new chapter of the Building Healthy Communities Program administered by the Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine. We’re calling this new chapter The Plantastics of Tallahassee. The group will be led by myself, Linda Oaksford, Georgia Ackerman, and Robin Bateman.
The easiest way for me to convey what this new group will be doing here in the Capital Area is to share two web links with you and let you read for yourself. The first explains the program as a whole and the second highlights the newly forming chapter in Tallahassee. We look forward to putting on programs here in Tallahassee and the surrounding counties and we’re shooting for January of next year for our first event.
