The March 27, 2025 board meeting opened with a discussion about the church’s role in community transformation. Members shared plans to form a right relations team to strengthen connections within the congregation and broader community.
Following this discussion, the board approved several staff changes, including raises and restructured roles. The Office Administrator will become the Church Administrator and the Director of Religious Exploration will also serve as Worship Leader. These adjustments resulted in overall budget savings while addressing staffing needs. Details of individual position changes were reviewed and approved by all present members.
The board then turned to facilities matters, approving a conditional exception to allow candles for an egg painting class offered by the THG Cooperative. In conjunction with this approval, members discussed improving fire safety measures throughout the facilities. The Board also confirmed that liability insurance will be required for certain sponsored groups using church facilities such as the Tallahassee Immigrant Rights Alliance (TIRA) and Tallahassee Community Action Committee (TCAC). However, further discussions regarding this requirement are ongoing.
Administrative concerns were addressed next, with board members raising issues regarding delays in the hiring process and unexpected changes to a previously approved job description for the Music Director. Follow-up was assigned to specific individuals to ensure clarity and consistency in future hiring practices and job descriptions.
A leadership training initiative using UUA online courses was introduced to the board. A pilot session was scheduled for the following week, with plans to expand the program based on feedback from participants.
The meeting concluded with coordination of plans for church lockups.
