UUCT is a member of the Capital Area Justice Ministry (CAJM), a coalition of over 20 diverse religious congregations in Tallahassee and the larger Big Bend Area. This coalition marshals our collective people power to hold local officials accountable for resolving social injustices

Together the congregations choose the community issues to address. Some individuals join research teams to identify the problems and the evidence-based solutions to fix the problems. Everyone comes together each year in a large assembly, the Nehemiah Action, where CAJM presents specific proposals to local officials and asks for their support.

CAJM has had several successes. With CAJM’s urging, the County Sheriff’s Office initiated a gun violence interruption program, and the County Commission committed to allocating over $500,000 a year to promote construction of more affordable rental housing for families with very-low and extremely-low incomes. CAJM continues to hold local law enforcement agencies accountable for issuing civil citations instead of arrests for minor infractions by children and youth. This past year, CAJM began a campaign to address food insecurity.
