“A series of one-minute stories of the many people, places, and events that have built our country and remind us of the power of each person to make history.”
I enjoy history . . . that said, the best thing about this series is that each program is only ONE MINUTE long.
A different narrator presents each story. Hosts include public figures, celebrities, academics, and others, often with a personal connection to the topic. (Read the brief bios under the video if you’re curious.) Don’t expect “talking heads,” though ―— the visuals include maps, photographs, art, documents, etc., to illustrate the story.
Although the subjects include “the usual suspects” (the American Revolution, the founders), the episodes also offer a broad selection of people and events from our shared history:
The Mayo Clinic . . . the Tlingits . . . Julia Child . . . Fort Mose . . . the Banjo . . . Star Wars . . . Head Start . . . the Stonewall Uprising . . . Native American Code Writers . . . Dwayne McDuffie . . . I. M. Pei . . . Mr. Rogers . . . Patsy Mink . . . Eatonville . . . the Special Olympics —
Scroll through the archive; subscribe to receive new episodes by email.
If it’s a subject you haven’t heard of, you will learn something new; if it’s you know all about it, you may view it differently. Either way, you will often find yourself reflecting on its relevance to the present.
That’s a lot to gain from ONE MINUTE!
