“The world changes according to the way people see it, and if you alter, even by a millimeter, the way a person looks or people look at reality, then you can change the world.” James Baldwin
Sometimes we change and the church has not kept pace with us. Many of us have been changed by the events of the last several years. Learning about what it means to be anti-racist can engender more change.
As we change, we can change the church. Individuals change more quickly than any institution. So it’s not uncommon for people to feel they have outgrown their church. That’s the very moment when we need to stick it out and work with other congregation members as we all grow in our understanding of oppression. Together we can build the church we want to belong to. Out of the tension grows spiritual maturity. If we lean into the work of anti-oppression, we will change.
Please join us at the congregational meeting on Sunday, May 15th” to discuss the adoption of the 8th Principle and how it might change us and our world.
