Message from the Music Director: Experience the Joy of Music

Hello, I am Valarie Howington.  Attended UUCT services lately? If so, you have probably seen me with the Chalice Choir and at the piano.  I am enjoying my new position as Music Director here.  It’s been a pleasure getting to know so many of you in this church community.

At the end of July, I was fortunate to attend the Association for Unitarian Universalist Music Ministries (AUUMM) conference, which was held in Atlanta, Georgia.  For four days we enjoyed singing new music, learning new techniques for leading and playing music, and meeting folks from all over the United States who are involved in the music programs of their various UU churches.  Each day began with a musical worship service, providing a wealth of ideas to enhance our own services.  What a thrill to be in a church with over 200 hundred musicians singing UU songs!

I encourage any folks out there in UUCT land, who feel they would like to experience the joy of music and sense of community that come from singing in a choir, to join us Wednesday evenings at 6:30 in the sanctuary for choir rehearsal.  We also meet most Sunday mornings (except the 2nd Sunday of each month) at 10am to rehearse before singing for the 11am service.  Hope to see you there!
