Well, here we are with August creeping in on us and it’s not getting any cooler. At least hurricanes have been at bay for our area, but Texas certainly wasn’t as lucky. Let’s hope all stays quiet.

I know I said we’d be taking off the summer and I’d only be sending you reading resources for the months of July and August, but something has come up that is worthy of our meeting and discussing. That something is the UUA’s denomination-wide Climate Justice Revival planned nation-wide for September 28th and 29th . It’s designed to be a two-day forum on climate justice. The Saturday would be devoted to workshops, forums, and discussion groups to be capped off by an all-encompassing Sunday service addressing the significance of and a call to action for climate justice and why we are called upon by our faith’s values.

I have attached two documents that are related. The first, an Action of Immediate Witness that was adopted at General Assembly this year by a landslide entitled “World on Fire: Humanitarian Work and Climate Change” and the second the press release describing UUA’s Climate Justice Revival. Please read through these and click on embedded links to learn more where relevant.

Therefore, let’s meet in person for our August 11th meeting in room L as usual at 12:30pm after the service.

Our church has signed up to participate in these activities and as a result we will be receiving resources and ideas on how to proceed to have a successful and rewarding weekend. So, if we receive resources before our meeting, I will share them with you and we can discuss those, but if not, we can discuss our own ideas that we might incorporate into such a program that we can commit to supporting for the event. It will be a fun brainstorming activity for us. Other groups on UUCT’s campus will be gathering to do the same thing in preparation for this event too. So, familiarize yourself with what has been provided and put your thinking caps on, so you’ll be ready when we meet.
