This past year, Manna on Meridian has been stretched thin. An increase in number of families seeking food and the spike of food prices led to review of how to continue to meet the need and changes in purchasing. A major step is a recently signed contract between Second Harvest of the Big Bend and Faith Presbyterian Church (on behalf of Manna on Meridian) .

True to Manna’s original mission, no identification verification or income verification will be required. Manna will not receive USDA products such as meat and dairy, where income and identification verification are required by law. Manna will receive produce and bread at no charge, will purchases boxes of mixed foods by category (grains, breakfast, etc) at .19/pound, and purchase case lots (when available) at below market price.

Manna volunteers now begin determining what Manna orders from Second Harvest and what will still need to be donated/purchased. Individual donations of dollars and goods are still needed. The partnership with Second Harvest will ease the increased cost of food but will not eliminate the need for outside vendors and donations of food.

The immediate infrastructure need is for freezers (chest or upright) and refrigerators. Gently used is great. New is great. This equipment will be used to store bread and produce between distributions. Pick up of donated equipment will be arranged.

YOU, the Manna Congregations, continue to be the key partnership that will lessen the “food deserts” that are in parts of Tallahassee.
