The Board is seeking volunteers to minister to our congregation and beyond by working on items that
further the proposed policy below. I believe we already aspire to this policy as a congregation.
The proposed policy is as follows:
UUCT provides a welcoming, safe, and secure campus for members, friends, tenants and visitors.
The role of the safety team is to develop and evaluate procedures in accordance with this proposed policy, and to communicate them to the congregation. This would include such items as:
- Locks, keys, and lock up
- Epidemic, pandemic and infectious disease
- Lockdown and evacuation
- Camera surveillance and response
- First aid, emergency calls and operation of defibrillator
- Response to people on campus who are potentially dangerous
Rather than stick with a traditional committee format which tends to evoke long meetings, I prefer the idea of teams in which volunteers choose areas of specific interest around a common goal. And yet, they can still check in with one another regarding projects on which they are working, and develop spiritually enriching community while they further the ministry of UUCT. The role of chair would be to pro-actively check in with people to see how they might be better supported. For some of these items we already have hard-working volunteers, such as our Covid Taskforce. Others overlap with work overseen by Buildings and Grounds. While other items have work already invested in them and may need tweaking and/or communicating them to the congregation. The aim of the Board is to bring interested parties together with the common goal of ensuring that the UUCT campus is welcoming, safe, and secure for all
of us.
